2. Rubbing It

We've all seen someone do this. They put perfume on their wrists and then rub their wrists together. That should spread the perfume around, right?

Well, yes and no. This actually isn't good for dispersing the scent of the perfume. It's far better to spray it and leave it alone.

Heat changes the longevity and power of the scent. When you rub your wrists together, you're heating up your skin. This will make the scent super strong short term, but it will fade more quickly.

Simply spray and go. No rubbing is necessary.

3. Buying Too Much

Did you know that perfume doesn't last forever? Yes, some people still use antique perfume from decades ago, but we can guarantee that it no longer smells the same as a fresh new bottle.

Even with proper perfume storage, your favourite scents have expiration dates. After those dates, the perfume won't harm your skin, but it may change colour and not smell as nice.

4. Not Testing Scents First

It's always a good idea to test scents before you buy them, even if you plan on buying your perfume online.

There are so many different types of perfume. There are different notes, strengths, and so much more. You don't want to spend a lot of money on a fancy new perfume just to realize that you don't actually like it as much as you thought you would.

Go to stores to test perfumes first. Even if you plan on shopping online, you can find the perfume (or a dupe) at a local store to try it first. Then shop online for better prices.

If you can't find a similar perfume nearby, buy a small bottle or even a tester if they're available. This way you're not making as big of a commitment to something you may not enjoy.

5. Applying It to the Wrong Places

What does your perfume application process look like? If you spray a bit in the air and walk through it, you're not alone. This is a great quick way to apply perfume, but it's not the best one if you want it to last longer.

Spray perfume on the warmer parts of your body. Your neck, wrists (without rubbing), and chest are all great for heating up the perfume quickly without making it too warm.

You can also spray perfume on your clothing or in your hair if you want it to last longer.

6. Only Basing Your Purchases on Price

Many people see expensive perfumes and assume that they'll love them, or cheap perfumes and assume that they're no good. While price can be an indicator of quality, this isn't always the case.

There are fantastic affordable perfumes that match up to their more expensive counterparts. There are also certain scent profiles that are far easier to find in affordable perfumes than in expensive perfumes.

This isn't to say that you shouldn't buy luxury perfumes. Just don't judge a perfume by its cover.
