Oscar de la Renta Perfumes
Boasting the best name in fashion, Oscar De La Renta fled the Dominincian Republic at just 18 to pursue his love or art and passion. Landing in Madrid, De La Renta wound up sketching for some of the biggest fashion houses in Spain including Lanvin and Balenciago.
The internships provided just the experience he needed to try his hand in New York and helped him secure the lead design position at Elizabeth Arden in 1963. He stayed just two years before opting to launch his own ready to wear label under his own name.
After building his brand in high-end clothing, sleepwear, sportswear, bags, belts and jewellery, De La Renta also tried his hand at home furniture and fragrance. He was much better at the latter.
In fact, he was so good that his first ever fragrance – Oscar released in 1977 – became a bestseller in over 70 countries and also took out the prestigious Foundation Perennial Success Award in 1991.
Following the success of the Oscar perfume, De La Rent create a male version, Pour Lui, before adapting the original recipe of Oscar and making Oscar for Men.
More than just a successful designer and perfumist, Oscar De La Renta will also go down as being a sensational person. Throughout his life he has given back to the Dominican Republic, opening day care centres and being honoured as a distinguished citizen.
We’ll remember him for both his contribution and his excellent fragrances including our favourites: Rose, Rosamore and of course, Oscar.
