From Daisy to Rain: All About Marc Jacobs Perfumes

From Daisy to Rain: All About Marc Jacobs Perfumes

Marc Jacobs named his most well-known and best-selling perfume line after one of literature's most famous characters: Daisy Buchanan from The Great Gatsby.

It's not surprising that one of the world's most foremost designers who spent 16 years at the head of Louis Vuitton would turn to the classics for inspiration. Especially when the perfume world was new territory for him. From the time he designed his first collection in 1986, it was 21 years before he launched Daisy in 2007.

Now, Marc Jacobs perfumes are nearly as recognisable as his fashion designs, and a bit more accessible, too. If you can't get your hands on clothes from Marc Jacobs, you could try one of his perfumes as your signature scent. Keep reading to learn more about each of the fragrances making up the iconic line of Marc Jacobs perfumes.

Marc Jacobs Decadence Perfume

As the name suggests, the Decadence line of Marc Jacobs perfume elicits richness and sophistication.

Playing the part of the woman all grown up, the original Decadence fragrance is a tantalizing combination of floral and fruity, sugary tartness. It's warm and rich, like the first notes of autumn. Given its lasting power, you'll feel enveloped in it all day.

The Divine Decadence scent is complex, combining notes of Champagne, saffron, and amber with more recognizable florals such as orange blossom, honeysuckle, bergamot, and gardenia. It sounds luxurious all on its own, and it's long-lasting. Hours after putting it on, you'll still feel luxurious and indulgent.

The Decadence Eau So Decadent scent launched in 2017 and leaned on the fragrance profile Marc Jacobs perfume has become known for: florals. This scent matches well with the spring and summer months as it totes pear, black currant, magnolia, jasmine, and raspberry.

Marc Jacobs Dot Perfume

Even the shape and design of the bottle of this Marc Jacobs perfume illustrates the young character of this scent. The red polka dots are unmistakably reminiscent of a ladybug, and the scent itself has that fresh-faced sweetness. It has notes of berries, coconuts, and vanilla combined with that floral hit of orange blossom and jasmine.

It feels bouncy and flirtatious, and scent and bottle come together to communicate fun and whimsy. Youthful and fresh, it's a lovely choice for the warmer months of spring and summer.

Marc Jacobs Rain Perfume

Launched first in 2006, Rain became part of the Splash Collection in 2017. It's a somewhat softer option. Compared to many other Marc Jacobs perfumes, it's more subtle than some of his other floral, woodsy scents, and it has a distinct quality of the freshness of water.

It's light, clean, and classic, making it a lovely daytime option for whatever you might have packed into your schedule. It's crisp and refreshing, with notes of strawberry and clementine atop notes of tropical rain and orchid. It's all supported by a base of rich tree scents, such as moss and beech.

For the warmer, summer months, it makes a lovely choice. In and of itself, it recalls summer rains and those charged, hot stormy nights, so it makes a wonderful complement to the season.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Perfume

The world became acquainted with Marc Jacobs perfume through Daisy. It was the designer's first foray into the perfume industry, and it has become his signature scent. Although the line of Daisy perfumes from Marc Jacobs has expanded, and he has launched other lines of perfumes, the original remains a classic.

It's a feminine scent: sexy, and popular, and intoxicating. It blends fresh, fruit notes like blood grapefruit and strawberry with more floral scents, like a violet leaf, gardenia, and jasmine. Then, to top it off, there's a hint of sweetness with a dash of vanilla.

It is woodsy, fruity, floral, and definitively delightful. Because of its complicated scent profile, it works for a number of different events and settings. It's a lovely option to wear during the day or for an evening an out, and it works during all seasons.

There are so many varieties of Marc Jacobs' signature scent that you might be wondering how to choose the right one. It's difficult to go wrong with such a classic scent, but there are some differences.

Daisy Eau So Fresh

The original Daisy scent becomes lighter and a touch more elegant with the Daisy Eau So Fresh scent. This one is explicitly feminine and yet still subtle.

All of the layers of fragrance seem to work well together, with the base scents complementing and almost strengthening the higher notes of raspberry, jasmine, and violet. It could easily be worn on its own, or layered with other scents.

It's both a versatile pick and perfect to be worn for a special occasion.

Daisy Dream

Some of the other Daisy varieties, such as Daisy Dream, are best for certain times of the year. Daisy Dream is soft and floral with the slightest edge of fruity notes, bringing along reminders of a sultry summer breeze.

It starts with crisp and juicy fruity notes, blending seamlessly into the florals underneath. It's elegant and ends with lightly sweet notes of the forest, like the caress of a warm summer day.

Daisy Love

Daisy Love is similarly floral but atop a woodsier foundation, giving it a richer feel perfect for date nights or girls' nights. It has that elegant touch, calling to mind the vintage glamour of the 1950s.

It works for all seasons and has a distinctly romantic feel. It's radiant and rich, but still light and sophisticated.
