Rochas Perfumes

To most, the quintessential look of Parisian fashion is pink and black lace. It’s everywhere, synonymous with the City of Love and also iconic in the Rochas range of perfume.

Rochas was founded in 1925 by French designer Marcek Rochas. The early days were dedicated to lengthy coats and skirts with pockets. Contemporary and fashionable, two words that would also later describe Rochas perfumes too.

It’s remarkable that the fashion house has survived so many different owners and Creaitve Director, and yet still holds a special place in many consumer’s hearts and mantle pieces.

The first ever trio of fragrances - Avenue Matignon, Air Jeune and Audace – were popular beyond belief, but a production break during the Second World War halted their momentum. Unfortunately, a more serious momentum stiffer was just around the corner which changed the Rochas history forever, and it came hot on the heels of the company’s most popular ever-fragrance, Femme, a 1944 creation which was a gift from Marcel Rocha to his wife, and the first men’s fragrance, Moustache, which was launched in 1949.

The Rochas fashion house didn’t initially survive Marcel Rochas death in 1950, Only the Parfums Rochas arm survived, mainly due to Marcel’s widow. She flourished in her fragrance role, but struggled to reinstate the original vision in other facets of the business.

With Femme to spark her imagination, Helene Rochas helped create and sell Madame Rochas, Eau de Rochas, Mystère, Macassar, Byzance, Globe, Tocade, Alchimie, Lumiere, Aquaman, Aquawoman, Absolu, Lui, Poupee, Desir de Rochas and a host of other men’s and women’s fragrances that have solidified the brand’s longevity.
