Is it a good idea to change your perfume in summer? The same perfumes that you wore during the winter and spring may not work as well in summer.

 

Our British summer is packed with the rich aroma of flowers, trees and grass. In the midst of all of these lovely summer fragrances, the fragrance of your regular perfume risks getting lost.

 

The same goes for when you travel abroad on your annual summer holiday. As we all know, the Meditteranean night is full of fragrances including a few rather musky ones including the highly fragrant Lady of the Night flower and jasmine. If you are planning a trip abroad this summer, it is a good idea to invest in one or two new perfumes.

 

Looking After Your Summer Perfume

 

When you are on holiday, looking after your perfumes is important. It is easy to make the mistake of placing your perfumes on a sunny hotel room dressing table.

 

Many travellers that I have spoken to place their perfumes in the mini-bar fridge. Please don’t do this. The cold temperature quickly deteriorates the essential oils in your perfume. It only takes a matter of days for this to happen.

 

Instead, store your perfume away from direct sunlight at an ambient temperature. The hotel bathroom is fine. Alternatively, consider keeping your perfumes in the hotel wardrobe.

 

The same goes for when you are at home. In summer, remember to store your perfume in the same way you do for the rest of the year. Perfumes and designer-brand body lotions should always be stored at ambient temperatures. Otherwise, the essential oils they contain are damaged.

 

Do I Need More Than One Summer Perfume?

 

I always recommend buying at least two perfumes. You need one for wearing during the evening and one for daytime use. It is also a good idea to have an extra perfume on standby.

 

It is easy to get bored with perfume. If you notice that you can’t “smell” the fragrance of your perfume anymore, it is time to change.

 

This does not mean your perfume has lost its fragrance. It means the scent receptors in your nose are used to the scent. If you wear another perfume for a couple of days, you will soon notice you can smell your perfume again.

 

In the weeks leading up to summer, I normally check what is new for the summer. But then again, I do have my favourite summer perfumes that I like to add to my collection during the summer.

 

Buying Gift Box Sets

 

If I am lucky enough to get the chance to take a summer holiday with my husband, I like to buy a gift box set before I go.

 

The reason is simple. Most perfume box sets contain everything you need for your summer holiday adventure. You often get what I like to call a “mini’-me” perfume, a full-size perfume or eau de toilette, and a body lotion.

 

A same-fragrance body lotion is simply a must when you are on holiday. Your body lotion helps to boost the longevity of your fragrance. Try it and you will find that wearing both a body lotion and a perfume makes a real difference.

 

If you can’t buy a gift box set, see if you can buy a body lotion with the same fragrance as your perfume.

 

Body lotions are also great for slipping into your handbag when you go sightseeing or shopping on your holiday. They help to moisturise your skin and boost your fragrance.

 

As a matter of fact, when I travel by airplane, I always carry a body lotion in my handbag or cabin bag.

 

Small Bottle VS Large Bottle

 

Should you buy a small or large bottle of your favourite summer perfume? It is a personal choice but I like to buy smaller bottles.

 

That way, I end up with a collection of different perfumes that I can wear in summer. Most perfumes last for about 2 months. That should give you enough perfumes for the summer months whether you stay in the UK or go abroad for a couple of weeks.

 

Remember to pack your perfumes carefully. Don’t leave them loose in your suitcase. Instead, buy a good-quality toiletries bag so that your perfumes are always safe.

 

Is It Safe To Wear Perfume To the Beach?

 

There seems to be some confusion around this topic. Some ladies believe that wearing perfume to the beach or around the pool is not safe.

 

Speaking to a couple of ladies, I realised they were concerned about the alcohol content in the perfume. As we all know, alcohol and parabens can cause skin damage.

 

Designer brand perfumes have a much lower alcohol content than generic or dupe perfumes. Most of them are perfectly safe to wear on the beach or by the pool. They also have low levels of parabens which is a group of chemicals that in high concentration can damage your skin.

 

If you are concerned about your perfume causing skin damage, you can always spray it on your hair. But, in general, I have never known a designer brand perfume to cause skin damage.

 

I always wear my perfume around the swimming pool and when spending a day on the beach.

 

The Best Women’s Summer Perfumes

What are the best women’s summer perfumes? We all have go-to favourites that work for us. I think Marc Jacob has an amazing range of summer perfumes.

 

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is my trusted favorite for wearing by the pool or on the beach. But, I am not going to start there. Let me tell you more about my personal summer favourites.

 

 

Hermes

 

Hermes Twilly d'Hermes Eau de Parfum was launched in the early part of 2017. It almost immediately became one of my favourite summer perfumes.

 

Although the summer air is full of fragrances, Twilly manages to break through. It has excellent longevity and lasts for hours. I love wearing it during the daytime in summer.

 

What does Hermes Twilly d'Hermes smell like? The addition of ginger makes this a refreshing daytime scent. It is the sort of fragrance you need first thing in the morning when you wake up. Twilly is vibrant and zesty.

 

As the scent develops, you also pick up on notes of tuberose and sandalwood. Twilly by Hermes is a wonderfully feminine, modern fragrance that works well for all occasions. It does not matter if you are going down for breakfast or rushing off to work.

 

If you are stuck in town and working this summer, put Hermes Kelly Caleche Eau de Toilette on your shopping list. It is a fun-loving yet sophisticated fragrance with lots of layers. Perfect for the modern, independent woman.

 

Hermes perfumes are great. In my opinion, far too many women underestimate them. This is a premier designer fragrance brand. You don’t need to apply a lot to get the desired effect.

 

 

 

 

Dolce Gabanna

 

If you are looking for a refreshing scent for daytime wear, Dolce & Gabanna Light Blue is a good choice. It is light and very refreshing.

 

The floral bouquet of this fragrance offers a certain amount of sweetness. At the same time, it is also fresh. Perfect for early morning starts when you need to go to work or when struggling to get out of bed on holiday.

 

Unlike other floral perfumes, it does not overwhelm. Light Blue subtly lets you know that you are wearing it. For a light fragrance, it has excellent longevity and easily lasts through the morning.

 

Light Blue Forever is a variation of the original Light Blue. It has sunshine at its heart and is packed with Mediterranean scents. A good perfume to buy when you come back from holiday.

 

Paco Rabanne Femme

 

The Paco Rabanne Pour Femme collection continues to grow and expand. I think that Paco Rabanne offers an excellent range of summer perfumes for women.

 

There are many which tick the right boxes for me. However, if you are looking for a feminine fragrance with a different, Olympea Eau de Parfum stands out.

 

This is a very modern fragrance packed with vibrant summery nuances that awaken the senses. Ginger is one of the notes which adds interest to Olympea Eau de Parfum. The fragrance has a soft cashmere finish which makes it easy to wear. Also works well during the evening if you plan on going out for dinner

 

Narciso Rodriquez for Her Musc Noir Rose

 

This is a recent addition to Narciso Rodriguez. The fragrance was launched in 2022 and is quickly becoming popular. At its base, it has patchouli which makes it intensely seductive.

 

As a summer perfume, it is perhaps not a good choice for the daytime. However, if you appreciate fine fragrances, and like to wear a special perfume at night, it is a fantastic fragrance to add to your collection.

 

Musc Noir Rose does not overpower, but you definitely know that you are wearing a seductive scent. Pink pepper and violet make it slightly spices. You can say that Narciso Rodriguez For Her Fleur Musc Eau de Parfum is the perfect date night perfume.

 

Viktor Rolf EDP

 

This Dutch perfumer is a relative newcomer to the industry. If you love feminine perfumes that offer something different, the fragrance from Viktor Rolf is worth exploring.

 

The brand is perhaps best known for Spicebomb which practically bursts out of the bottle. Spicebomb is indeed an excellent fragrance for date night or general evening wear. If you are looking for a daytime fragrance from Viktor and Rolf, Good Fortune with its floral notes and hints of musk is a good choice.

 

 

 

Marc Jacobs - The Daisy Collection

 

What can I say? I have been converted! When it comes to feminine perfumes, I think Marc Jacobs is a designer perfume brand that offers some of the best women’s summer perfumes.

 

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to Marc Jacobs fragrances for women. I have a couple sitting on my dressing table right now.

 

For summer, I particularly like Eau So Fresh by Marc Jacobs. It is wonderfully feminine and fragrant. Although it is sweet, the sweetness of this fragrance does not overpower the senses. It is a lovely perfume which deserves to be part of your women’s perfume collection.

 

And I know I shouldn’t say it, but it really does come in a gorgeous bottle.

 

Gucci Bloom Eau de Parfum

 

Okay, I was a bit surprised when Gucci brought out Bloom. It seemed to be a step away from the direction the brand was taking at the time. But, I have to say that I like Bloom.

 

This is a lovely white floral fragrance by master perfumer Alberto Morillas. I love the fact that Alberto has added a diverse range of scents. It makes you think of a summer garden with a touch of spice.

 

Gucci Bloom Eau de Parfum is at home on the school run or when going out in the evening. Altogether, a modern feminine fragrance for today’s woman.

 

Chloe L’Eau

 

Chloe offers a fantastic range of summer fragrances for women. All of the perfumes in the collection smell fantastic and it is hard to know which one to choose.

 

Chloe Rose Tangerine Eau de Toilette is a lovely fresh scent perfect for wearing when you need a pick-me-up. It is soft and powdery and slightly seductive.

 

The soft, powdery notes add to the longevity of this fragrance. They also help to enhance the touch of musk which has been added to make the fragrance more interesting.

 

Can I give you a personal top tip? If you are planning on buying a designer brand body lotion this summer, a top choice is Chloe Nomade Body Lotion. It smells great and is quickly absorbed by the skin. This a good body lotion to wear when you don’t want to wear perfume.

 

Final Thoughts

 

The best women’s summer perfumes make you feel that it is summer. Once summer is gone, they should continue to invoke memories of sunny days and warm nights.
