Another fashion brand that’s a little tricky to say. Hermes is pronounced ‘er-mez’. It’s distinguished by its horse and carriage logo that they’ve used since the 1950s – the same time that their perfume journey began.
Hermes is a French luxury goods brand that started off as an equestrian accessories brand (hence the horse logo), before pivoting to become a purveyor of luxury leatherwear, fashion and fragrance.
The first perfume was released in 1951. Eau d’Hermès was the creation of masterful blender, Edmond Roudnitska who composed it to be subtle and natural. It was an amazing vision in an era of opulence and status; proving that foresight is an equally as important as the nose is in creating fragrances with longevity.
Following Roudnitska as chief scent maker has been Guy Robert, Jean-Claude Ellena and Christine Nagel. Individually they’ve created world-famous Hermes perfumes including Calèche, Eau d’Hermès, Voyage d’Hermès, Terre d’Hermes, Jour d’Hermès, Un Jardin Sur Le Nil, Un Jardin en Mediterranée, Un Jardin Sur Le Toit, Eau de Néroli Doré, Eau de Rhubarbe Éclarte and Galop d’Hermès. Collectively, they’ve elevated the brand to one of the most loved fragrance brands in the world.
